Hanukkah comes to 30 homes, thanks to NCJW Palm Beach Section

On December 12, nine members of the National Council of Jewish Women Palm Beach Section’s “Holiday Food Bag Program” gathered at the home of Chair Fredi Grove in Boynton Beach. 61
large canvas bags were overstuffed with Hanukkah candles, potato pancake mix, apple sauce, tuna, salmon, sardines, peanut butter and jelly, soups, hanukkahcrackers, pasta/rice/couscous, tea, cans of vegetables and fruit, gefilte fish, borscht and more. In addition, special Hanukkah bags for children were filled with Chocolate gelt, dreidels and Hanukkah cookies. Many items were generously donated by members at the Section’s opening event at The Breakers West on November 13.
The day following the bagging, all 61 bags were delivered by volunteers to four area temples: Temple Anshei Shalom in Delray Beach, Temple Shaarei Shalom in Boynton Beach, Temple Beth Tikvah in Greenacres, and Temple Beth Torah in Wellington. Anonymous recipient families or individuals were selected by the temples as being in need of additional food at holiday time. A $10 Publix gift card was also included for each family to purchase perishable items.
The volunteers also “kick into action” for the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, and for Passover, when items are donated at Villaggio’s Women’s Seder in Lake Worth.
This program has expanded tremendously thanks to the hard work and dedication of Fredi Grove, chair for the past 15 months. As she puts it so eloquently: “Holidays are a time for celebrating with loved ones. No one should have to worry about purchasing special holiday foods, or basic staples for their pantries. It is with great pleasure that I chair the Holiday Food Bag Program and work with the generous volunteers who give of themselves so freely.”
If you would like to donate kosher food items for the Holiday Food Bag Program, please contact Fredi Grove at 310-662- 1326 or Fgrove1973@aol.com. You will be doing a good deed for the community!
