On December 20, Ilene Leefer, co-chair of Heads Smart and certified helmet fitter, teamed up with the Boca Raton Bicycle Club to teach about helmet safety and fit helmets on boys and girls from the Delray Boys and Girls Club. These youngsters had been chosen by the director of the Boys and Girls Club to receive new bikes, helmets, lights, bells, and backpacks for their leadership and participation in club activities.
With a grant from Marshalls and a donation of bikes from Walmart, 20 children and teens received bikes and important cycling accessories in addition to helmets.
Helmet education and fitting also took place at the Club at Ibis Health & Wellness Fair on January 27. Marsha Rickles and Fran Mahar brought their bike and helmet knowledge to the adults in the gated community. Many people stopped by the Heads Smart table to learn about correct fitting and to pick up additional safety materials. Many also inquired as to when another Heads Smart presentation would be available to new residents of the club.
