Our Anti-trafficking Campaign Continues to Gain Steam

HUMAN TRAFFICKING

We are so lucky to have many volunteers stepping up to participate in our efforts to raise awareness and provide education on human trafficking.  Our first human trafficking committee meeting had 15 attendees, and 10 more who were unable to attend.  We will hold more meetings in the fall and winter. Sex TraffickingOur members are providing personal care items to victims of human trafficking as they are rescued,  and household items as they transition to independent living.  We thank our volunteers for shopping for this part of our LIFT project. We have new handouts specifically for youth aging out of foster care which points out the risks this vulnerable population face as they are often targeted by traffickers.  The handouts will be distributed by the staff of ChildNet and Vita Nova, Inc as personal care and household items from our LIFT program are given out. We also have handouts specifically for homeless men and women, another very vulnerable population targeted by traffickers, which were distributed at the Homeless Coalition's Project Connect event in June and will be distributed, along with lip balm, at future Project Connect events. We are beginning to reach out to the Jewish community with educational programs for adults and children.  A  Human Trafficking  Sisterhood Shabbat is scheduled for January 11, 2020, at Temple Beth El in West Palm Beach, and a Human Trafficking event is planned for Temple Israel in West Palm Beach in October. Do you belong to a Temple or Synagogue that would host a human trafficking educational event?

Again our thanks to those who stepped up and volunteered to work on human trafficking education. Anyone wanting to join our committee is invited to contact Judy Traub at jftraub@aol.com While at the Project Connect event, Diane Goldin, a new member, and Judy Traub were interviewed by a young woman who was a summer intern working at the event that day. She told Diane and Judy that she had received a scholarship from NCJW. We are proud to have played a role in paying it forward.
