Heads Smart is looking forward to a Happy and Healthy life-saving 2022. By the new year, Directors Marsha Rickles and Ilene Leefer will have taken a course sponsored by Safe Kids to become certified bicycle helmet fitters. This status allows the recipients to order helmets for needy riders directly from the state.
The week of Dec. 10, Marsha and Ilene met with representatives of the Palm Beach County Schools to introduce the idea of incorporating Heads Smart helmet safety lessons into the curriculum for the younger children, as the district begins Bike Safety in third grade. Conversations will continue
The dynamic duo also made a presentation to a group of children and a few parents at Boca Grove Country Club. This is the second time Boca Grove asked for a Heads Smart program, the first being a zoom broadcast during COVID. After the positive impact on the small but interested audience, the club has already requested a return to address general membership after the new year.
In addition, Marsha met with the newly formed Bikes and Trikes Club members at The Club at Ibis to talk about types of helmets and how to properly wear them. Helmets will be required for club bike trips.
Heads Smart will be holding a committee meeting on Jan 4, 2022, at 1:30. The meeting will be held at Marsha’s home in Club Ibis- 7557 Hawks Landing Dr. West Palm Beach. Marsha and Ilene are looking for volunteers to help them. Not only can they use people with an education background to work with the children in the schools, but anyone who likes to make phone calls, write, take photos, or plan events.
