On December 27, 2023, as part of Wellness Day at The Club at Ibis, Marsha Rickles, Heads Smart Chairwoman, and Ilene Leefer, along with Ibis Public Safety Officer, Greg Butcher, designed an obstacle course for children on bicycles. While educating the public on the necessity of wearing helmets on bikes, scooters, and skateboards, the children also learned about proper use of hand signals and how to safely maneuver around obstacles in the road.
Those in attendance had the opportunity to win a new bike. Two bikes were awarded to Nora and Ethan Dananberg.
Prior to the Ibis event, Marsha was interviewed by Erin Guy on WPBF during which Marsha explained the reason for her mission to promote bicycle safety through proper helmet wearing. The loss of her son in a bicycle accident moved her to create this wonderful program to prevent others from having to deal with the devastating consequences of lack of education and proper helmet-wearing. Ilene, for her part, credits her wearing of a helmet for preventing serious bodily injury when she fell from her bike.
We are so grateful to Marsha and Ilene for representing NCJW Palm Beach and sharing their expertise with the broader Palm Beach County community. So many innocent lives will be saved through their efforts.
