Advocacy has continued to present awareness of social issues through zoom presentations during the pandemic. Since our last article, we presented a zoom presentation highlighting issues unique to Florida’s Reproductive Rights/Abortion Rights. Most recently, we presented a first in a series of planned webinars highlighting Racial Equity Issues. It is our goal to continue to bring educational programming to our Section in an effort to encourage engagement among our members regarding important social issues affecting our community and our nation.

Many of us on the committee have been engaging in telephone and email outreach to our local and national legislators. While we will continue to question the effectiveness of these efforts, we should keep in my mind that there were proposed bills during the  Florida Legislative Session that would have SEVERELY impacted women’s access to abortion as well as eroded sex education in our schools.  NONE of those passed.!! The Voting Rights legislation that passed in Florida is well-publicized by now.  It is restrictive and extremely NON-productive. The law as proposed was FAR MORE RESTRICTIVE AND DRACONIAN.  We must consider that our collective voices were heard enough to ameliorate the damage that could have occurred.
